Following the success of its debut outing at 2022NQ in September, Art Battle Manchester will next stop at Band On The Wall where ten brave new challengers will pit their brush strokes against each other in front of up to 300 art fans to create a 30-minute masterpiece. Circulating the action and watching the art evolve; onlookers will decide which artist should progress to the grand final at the end of each round by voting for their favourite creation.

Bringing enthusiasm and unpredictabilitytoSeptember’s event, artist Jay Smith called it “art for the people, by the people”, whilst inviting audience members to add their fingerprints to his work. Although some artists attended with a sizable fan club, it was the unassuming Dave Goodwin, who runs a studio at Manchester’s Craft Centre, that stole hearts to be crowned the first ever ‘Art Battle Manchester Champion’.

With an eclectic group of artists once again expected to take part, art fans are being encouraged to buy tickets early; the first battle having sold out in advance raising almost £600 for Manchester homeless charity Mustard Tree. This time rumored artists include SLM, the street artist behind the critically acclaimed Northern Quarter portrait of Edward Snowden, and Fanny Gogh, so christened by The Sunday Sport, after making a collage from knickers donated by the cast of Shameless.

Audience members may walk away with a masterpiece at the end of the night too with all work created to be auctioned off, and the proceeds split between the artists and Band on the Wall Foundation who give a musical voice to children in local disadvantaged communities.

Art Battle Manchester will be an historic moment for Band on the Wall; more used to providing a platform to thousands of musical artists over the last century from Joy Division to Bjork, this event will see visual artists taking centre stage at the venue for the very first time.

Who knows whether the artists will fight or take flight; either way it promises to be an event to remember.
