The Fred Aldous Summer Outing 05 Aug

You may have noticed that the shop was shut two Sunday’s ago, this was because we thought that it was high time to resurrect the Fred Aldous tradition of the annual staff summer outing. The last time we shut the shop and all went out for the day was way back in 1953.

So here is what we got up to…

Being mainly subterranean dwellers here at Freds we decided that we needed a little fresh air so we headed off to Go Ape in Buxton for a bit of monkeying around. With rope ladders, zip-lines, rope bridges and trapezes, Go Ape is a tree top adventure course with lots of vertigo inducing terror!

After bravely strapping into our harnesses and a safety briefing, we were off. Looking more like the set of Predator, we quickly realised this was no gentle walk amongst the trees. We could have sworn we heard the instructor saying “You lose it here, you’re in a world of hurt.”…

If you don’t like heights this is not the one for you. The course got high. And it got high very quickly; the Tarzan swing towards the end of the course really did test our metal! Needless to say we all loved the challenge and had a great time in the tree tops.

We rounded the day off with few well deserved cold ones and a Sunday roast in the beautiful surroundings of the Pavilion Gardens. To capture the adventure we strapped a Gopro to the ever ready Chris Ridler, the results of which can be watched right here.

It’s safe to say we won’t be waiting another 61 years for our next outing and we are already planning one for next year. We would love to hear your suggestions, email them here.
