MCR magazine is a free publication showcasing the best of what Manchester has to offer. Our Ali has been working with local artists on the last two editions to produce a piece of work about what Manchester means to them. For MCR14 she asked FA Sketchpad artists Jake Beddow and Alex T Fraser along with Mary Ashcroft, Bryony Jackson and Julie Cochrane.
Jake used our Risograph printer to produce his piece, which is a 3 colour (Teal, Pink and Yellow) A3 print. He tells MCR Magazine, “With this piece I wanted to create a selective sprawling map of Manchester made up of the buildings and structures that act as personal landmarks in the city.” We loved the map so much we asked him to create a map for our window.
Alex T Fraser, our second Sketchpad artist to feature in MCR14, created an illustration in his recognisable style which takes inspiration from the people that he knows who cycle or walk everywhere they go, “I like that Manchester has lots of different sections but is the right size that everything is easily reachable by foot, or bike or even public transport.”
There is also a great feature about Outhouse in the magazine with an interview from Tasha Whittle, who co-ordinates the project alongside our Ben. Outhouse has been running for four years furnishing walls in the Northern Quarter with changing street art murals, in her interview with MCR Magazine Tasha explains how the project is received within the local community.
