How to live a creative life: A one-off creative masterclass at Victoria Baths

Artist and author, Michael Atavar leads a creative masterclass in the historic pools of Victoria Baths, Manchester on Saturday 18th July.

Four practising contemporary artists join artist and author of How to be an Artist, Michael Atavar, to share their creative ideas, insights and experience through a series of hands-on classes suitable for anyone with the desire to live more creatively, in the magnificent surroundings of Manchester’s heritage water palace.

This is a one-off event that will enable participants to explore the nature of creativity as well as producing their own artworks. Artists Matt Davies, Kate Webborn (Fourbeatwalk), Lisa Ribec and Monica Jones, will each work within their specialist discipline and a range of media, including screen-printing, monoprint and relief printmaking, mixed media collage and life drawing.

• Suitable for anyone with a sense of curiosity and a desire to think, learn, make and do, regardless of experience or ability.
• Participants work directly with practising artists, using mixed media and a range of disciplines, all of which can be learnt.
• The classes will include life drawing, mixed media and collage, screen-printing or mono and relief printing.

Michael Atavar will be introducing the day, providing a creative jumping off point for participants as they embark on their creative journey, and facilitating the summing up session at the close of the day. As an artist, Atavar has toured with the Institute of Contemporary Arts in the USA and was the first artist-in-residence at The Guardian, more recently he delivered a programme of public workshops, Creative Process, for Tate Modern.

Victoria Baths, the nation’s beloved heritage pools and go-to location for artists, film and theatre directors, will be for one day only, a fantastic studio space, in which participants can immerse themselves in a supercharged creative atmosphere.
