Sketchpad Artist: Chris Dorning

Chris Dorning is one of the twenty Outhouse artists who has produced a cover for our sketchpad range. We caught up with Chris so you could find out a little bit more about his work  

How did you get involved with Outhouse?

I was introduced to Outhouse by the lovely Tasha Whittle (artist) ...people helping people etc!

How would you describe your work?

spontanius, always changing and serial .

What inspires you?

I get inspired when I see things done well.

Who is your favourite artist or maker?

Brett Whitely (serial artist) Etam crew (graffiti / mural artists) the list could go on for ever really!

What materials do you use?

It all depends on what I'm trying to achieve, but mostly I draw with a Japanese style Ink Brush Pen

What is your favourite piece of work that you have made?

I don't think I have made it yet... I love all my work immediately after I finish it, but a day later, I know I can do better..

Do you have any advice for artists starting out?

Don't think to much... it doesn't help, your first idea is generally the best one!

What tip would you give to people about one of our products?

The Pental Japanese Ink Brush Pen is an un-forgiving beauty so mastering it is worth the effort..and don't let you 4 year old son borrow it....as it will ruin your day....and the pen!
