Q. My garment weighs 3 lb so one packet should be enough. However, it is a very bulky garment which won't fit into a pan, and I'll need to dye it in the bathtub. Will one packet of dye still be enough for this larger amount of water? Also, I won't be able to simmer it, so presumably it will still work if I start off with very hot water, as the cast iron bath holds the heat well.

A. For dyeing polyester it's important to have the water as hot as you can get it, so it would be ideal to simmer it but it's worth a try in a cast iron bath. If you are trying to achieve a drastic colour change it would probably be safer to use two packets. Here are Jaquard's in depth instructions for using iDye Poly: http://www.jacquardproducts.com/assets/jacquard-site/product-pages/dyes/idye/iDye%20Poly%20Instructions.pdf Please also note that dyeing is rarely a precise art, and we can't guarantee perfect results.
