Over the years, he slowly evolved from painting letters to characters and then pattern-based work. This journey allowed him to collect varying ideas and techniques, but another big inspiration was his time working as an Architectural Technologist. His use of flat simple, black-line work filled with patterns is heavily influenced by the drawing style and philosophies of traditional architectural drawings.
Early on, abandoned buildings were where Marcus honed his skills as a painter. As Sheffield City centre underwent redevelopment, an array of new canvases appeared in the form of hoarding boards surrounding building sites, presenting his work to a wider audience. Today his work can be seen in a vast range of places across the country and, of course, in the occasional disused building.
